Skyline Towers Collapse

At 2:18 in the afternoon on March 2, 1973, Kirk Osgood, a Fairfax County police officer, radioed in that a portion of the Skyline Towers, a 24-story high rise building in Bailey's Crossroads, VA, had collapsed. Fairfax and Arlington counties both sent rescue squads to the scene. 14 people died, and 34 others were injured in the tragedy. The recovery operation was tedious, and the last body was found two weeks later. The collapse was attributed to the early removal of concrete support beams under the floors.
